How to replace drawer slides

First decide whether the drawer needs a complete running system or one matching part. Then identify the hardware and check the replacement’s fit. The same procedure does not suit every drawer.

Find your replacement route

Start with what you need to replace. You can choose a complete system, a small component or older hardware you cannot identify yet.

A broken part does not always mean a new system

Furniture drawer with a central track, rear support and separate guide components. — A track, a guide and its mounting support are different parts of an arrangement. A small damaged guide may have a matching replacement; a worn or damaged track may need a complete-system route.

For a bracket, socket, catch or guide, check the exact part and the hardware it belongs to. Similar color, outline or screw spacing alone does not prove compatibility. Keep the original part and its markings until you have verified the replacement.

If the rails, track or matched running assembly need replacement, identify that architecture first. A single center slide, paired side slides and a proprietary drawer system need different parts. Do not mix unrelated inner and outer rails to make a set.

Work through the replacement in this order

Identify the current arrangement. Use the old-hardware Identifier if names or markings are unclear. Record the box construction, hardware location and attachments.
Record the fit information that matters. Use the measurement guide for closed length and markings. Check the candidate’s mounting space, depth and attachment requirements. An advertised length alone is not enough.
Keep the functions you rely on. Note full extension, soft-close, self-close or push-to-open. Verify that the proposed replacement preserves them, or explicitly decide whether losing a function is acceptable.
Inspect the mounting surfaces. Repair damaged support or fixing points before fitting replacement hardware. Stronger slides do not correct a broken box or loose support.
Use the matching installation route. Empty and support the drawer, use the correct removal method, then follow the chosen system’s instructions. Keep the old layout documented until the new arrangement has been checked.

Once installed, check alignment and smooth travel with the drawer empty before returning it to normal use within its documented limits. Check the opening and closing functions as well as whether it moves.

Continue with your hardware type

Paired side-mounted rails: Install side-mount drawer slides using the chosen model’s space, attachment and alignment requirements.
Concealed runners: Install undermount runners with the specified box preparation and matching attachments.
One central metal slide: Replace a center-mount slide; do not assume a pair is required.
Low roller channels: Replace Euro / roller slides, keeping same-type replacement separate from conversion.
Furniture track and guides: Replace dresser center-track hardware, checking the guide and support separately from the track.

If the exact older assembly remains unknown, the Planner can still identify what needs checking for a suitable complete replacement. It does not promise that new pieces will interchange with the old ones.
