How to replace dresser center tracks and drawer guides
A broken guide does not automatically mean replacing the whole track. Find the failed part first, then work outward: matching component, complete center-track system, and only then a different slide setup.
Confirm the track-and-guide arrangement
Use this route for a furniture center track with separate guide or support parts. For wood-on-wood runners or an uncertain layout, compare wooden runners and center-track guides or identify the old hardware first.

1. Check whether one matched part will repair it
Empty and support the drawer before removing it by the intended release. Photograph the track, guide, rear support and any front glides in place. Keep broken pieces for identification.
Inspect the track and the material holding its fixings as well as the failed guide or socket. A loose fixing in damaged wood needs a sound repair before a new part can work. If only a guide or support has failed and the remaining system is usable, look for that matching component first.
Compare the engaging profile, mounting holes, orientation and relevant dimensions with a documented replacement. Include the part it mates with in photographs and measurements. Use the measurement guide for the track; a guide’s outside width alone cannot establish its fit.
Install the confirmed component according to its instructions, engage the drawer and test it empty. If it still drops or pulls away, stop and recheck the track, supports and drawer structure.
2. Replace the complete track system when needed
If the track is damaged or the required repair component is unavailable, check for a compatible complete center-track kit. Compare the assembly’s mounting points, available depth, guide engagement and support arrangement. Use the parts that belong together rather than mixing the new track with an unverified old guide.
Check the kit contents and its fastener requirements before dismantling the old system. Follow its layout, alignment and insertion instructions, then secure all required fixing points and test the empty drawer through its intended travel.
Not yet finding a replacement is not confirmation that none exists. If availability is uncertain, continue checking the known track system and its compatible replacements. That uncertainty alone does not call for conversion.
3. Consider conversion only after the track options
If a compatible complete center-track replacement is confirmed unavailable, a different slide setup may be the next route. Check the actual side clearance, usable mounting surfaces and drawer construction against a chosen model before deciding that it will fit.
For a feasible move to paired side slides, use the side-mount installation guide. An unmeasured opening or missing mounting surface leaves feasibility unresolved; it is not permission to attach rails wherever they fit visually.
