How to replace Euro / roller drawer slides

Check a suitable roller-slide replacement first. Switching to ball-bearing slides is a separate fit decision, not a necessary part of replacing worn roller hardware.

Choose the replacement before moving holes

Empty and support the drawer. Photograph both sides, then follow the current hardware’s release procedure. Many roller designs lift out, but do not force an unfamiliar stop.

Keep the old pieces together and distinguish left from right, and drawer members from cabinet members. Record markings and measure the hardware. Compare the candidate’s mounting profile, required clearance on each side, length and available depth with your drawer and cabinet.

Check the documented load rating, opening travel and closing action too. A same-type replacement should retain the functions you need. For a complete replacement, use the matching left/right set with its corresponding drawer and cabinet members. Replace only a wheel, bracket or other part when compatibility and the condition of the remaining hardware are confirmed.

Fit the matching set

  1. Identify all four members. Use the new set’s markings and drawing to distinguish each side and mounting location. Wheel positions depend on the member; do not reverse one to imitate the other.
  2. Prepare and mark the mounting surfaces. Repair loose fixing points. Set height and front position from the model’s instructions, using consistent references on both sides.
  3. Mount the drawer and cabinet members. Use the specified holes and fasteners. Where adjustment slots are provided, follow the sheet’s adjustment sequence before final fixing.
  4. Insert the drawer using its intended path. Keep both sides engaged evenly. Check for screw-head interference or a misplaced member if the drawer catches.
  5. Adjust, secure and test. Check the front position, smooth travel and intended closing action. Complete the required fixings, test empty, then return contents within the documented rating.

When a different slide type makes sense

If a suitable roller replacement can meet the goal, there is no need to convert the drawer. If it cannot, compare ball-bearing and roller slides and check a specific candidate’s fit. An unchecked gap is not proof that conversion will work.

Ball-bearing side slides need suitable mounting surfaces and their own specified side space. Check those before buying or altering the box, then follow the side-mount installation guide for the chosen hardware.
